'NUCLEARWINTER' COMES TO SYDNEY

Talk and media availability by Professor Alan Robock of Rutgers
University, 5-6.30pm, Fri25Jan, Center for Peace and Conflict
Studies, Mackie Building, Opp. Footbridge Theater, Arundel Street
Glebe, (off Parramatta Road). Rm114 and Poster Gallery.

Professor Alan Robock is possibly the worlds foremost expert on 'Nuclear
Winter', the result of the large-scale use of nuclear weapons against
cities in particular.

Professor Robock was one of those who performed the original research on the
subject in the 1980's, when it was credited with persuading even
Ronald Reagan that nuclear war 'cannot be won and must never be
fought'.

Professor Robock, together with Brian Toon, did the 'nuclear winter' computer
simulations over again in 2006 with the latest NASA climate models
and concluded that it was likely to be even more catastrophic than
thought in the 1980's.

Professor Robock's latest publication, in the prestigious Bulletin of the
Atomic Scientists, is 'Self Assured Destruction'.

Prof. Robock has been in Australia for the IPCC meetings in Hobart.

The talk at Center for Peace and Conflict Studies is his ONLY  public
appearance  while he is here.

He will be available for media just before and immediately after the
talk at CPACS, 5-6.30.
