UTTER HYPOCRISY AS US TESTS NUCLEAR MISSILE

Last week the Trump administration blasted Iran for testing a missile that might someday after years or decades of development, be suitable to carry a nuclear warhead – if Iran HAD a nuclear warhead.

The Iran nuclear deal was said to have been jeopardized by the test. New sanctions are being slapped on Iran – sanctions that may well motivate Iran to itself reject the Iran deal and proceed with the development of nuclear weapons.

This week the US itself plans to test a missile from Minot air-force base. There are no ifs or buts about whether this is a nuclear missile – it IS a nuclear missile. And there is no doubt about whether it will work. It is 99.9% likely to work.

The double-standard is stunning.

David Krieger of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation has asked 'will we sanction ourselves?

In all honesty that is what should be done. If an Iranian missile that might someday maybe carry a nuclear warhead attracts sanctions then a US missile that has absolutely no other purpose should do so.

Iranian and North Korean missile test launches attract massive (negative) coverage, as if they had the capability to end the world. Yet the launches that really do have the capability to end the world – US and Russian ones – attract next to none.

The message is do as we say not as we do.
